October news and events

Hi all! After reaching the second round after the September 16th preliminary, I’ve been right back on the campaign trail. Thank you to everyone who voted, volunteered, offered words of advice or even a wave — it means a lot, and we’re only just getting started.

First, an announcement: I’m honored to have received the endorsement of the Northampton Association of School Employees (NASE), and to be working alongside so many brilliant educators and public school staff in Northampton. Solidarity is our most powerful asset in the struggle for public services at every level — as we move forward, I’m proud and humbled to do so side by side with NASE. I’d also like to thank the hosts of last night’s party at Roberto’s, where over 125 people turned out in the name of a progressive sea change. It’s great to feel the momentum building across Northampton in support of our schools, public services and democratic rights — now let’s organize like it!

Second, with the final stretch of the campaign now in full swing, we have some events coming up! I’m not content with a prevalent model of politics we’ve seen across our ward and in our city, where invite-only meet and greets substitute for public engagement — that’s why every event we’re putting on is open to everyone. I’m welcoming dreams, concerns, ideals, doubts and questions big and small: if I’ve come to your door, you’ve probably heard the question “what’s been on your mind?”, and I want the same spirit to shine through in the coming weeks and beyond. No community priority is too local (or national), and no budget issue is too in-the-weeds.

First, this Sunday (October 12th), 4-6pm, we’ll have a meet and greet party at 261 Riverside Drive in Bay State. There will be food, refreshments and childcare provided.

Later in the month (October 25th, 10am-noon), we’ll have another party (with different fare — coffee and cider donuts!) over at 93 Bliss St. RSVP with Amber at amber.kanner@gmail.com; childcare likewise provided!

There’s another event in the works for late October as well, and I’ll share that as soon as the details are ironed out. As always, if you have any thoughts or questions, please feel free to reach me at rotelloforward5@gmail.com.

See you soon!

-Luke
